Story of expert of housing
The history of Lapponia has arisen from the dreams, ideas and most of all the diligence of Mr. Jouko Riihimäki - the main share holder and founder of the company. Becoming a businessman has been a life-long ambition ever since he was a child.
Early on in life Mr. Riihimäki decided to leave to Sweden to undertake construction work and this work taught him the values of action and diligence whilst gaining valuable experience of life. His language skills improved and he became familiar with varied construction work. Only his commercial education was lacking so Mr. Riihimäki returned to Finland to study and graduate in Commerce. The spark to be an expert in the field of innovative housing was ignited.
Lapponia has fulfilled housing dreams for almost 30 years.
Mr. Riihimäki's experiences and his determination to make something technically better led to the founding of his own house factory at Kemi in 1981. The first house package was loaded and delivered in March 1982. At the same time a new product innovation - the thermo log was born into the Finnish market.
Thermo log products gained rapid success in the market because of its key superior features - heat resistance, speed of construction and a structure that never twists or settles. Thermo log structures function superbly in hot and humid weather conditions just as well as in the cold. The interior of the thermo log houses remains cool and maintenance is remarkably easier and more economical than in traditional solid log houses, especially in bigger buildings. In addition, thermo log houses can easily be designed to resist earthquakes - as proved by the many houses sold to Japan, Cyprus and Italy.
In 1988 the founder of the company was granted a businessman of the year -award and the opening ceremony of a new and most modern house factory in Finland followed on the 18th August 1989 in Ajos of Kemi. After the heavy recession years of the 1990s Lapponia grew and developed steadily again. Novel house models were presented at housing fairs and expressions of thanks were granted by the President of Finland.
During the last decade, Lapponia has established its position as a remarkable manufacturer of high quality wooden houses. The success of the company in export markets indicates that whilst the houses are uniquely Finnish, they are at the same time international enough to find friends in many parts of the world.
